The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Administrator/Assistant to join our team of dedicated scientists working in an IVF laboratory setting. A high attention to detail is required when performing administrative duties to support the laboratory team.  The role will be predominantly administration based with addition responsibility supporting the laboratory team in the delivery of the clinical service by performing laboratory maintenance/cleaning, quality control, witnessing & traceability and culture dish preparation. The post holder will work alongside other members of the laboratory team in delivering the highest standards of patient care in line with national regulation and TFP policy. 

Applicants must be educated to college level and have a keen interest in biology. 

This a permanent full time position - 37.5 hours per week with weekend rotation of 1:3

The Location:

GCRM was established in 2006 and is Scotland’s only private IVF clinic. Due to the passion, expertise and reputation of our team, GCRM has grown and now performs an impressive 800 fresh cycles and 700 frozen cycles per year. We offer a full suite of treatment and diagnostic services, including PGT. Conveniently located in a business park setting on the outskirts of Glasgow, adjacent to junction 25 of the M8, there is ample free parking for staff & patients at the front of the building. Our IVF laboratory is equipped with the latest equipment and monitoring systems that support us in achieving excellent outcome KPI’s. GCRM also has a 5/5 inspection rating from the HFEA.

Job requirements

Key Responsibilities:

• To assist in the monitoring and ordering of laboratory consumables

• To accurately record details of patient cycles in the patient management system and the laboratory notes

• To accurately report details of patients cycles to the HFEA via Prism

• To perform witnessing and traceability in line with national regulation and TFP policy

• To prepare laboratory notes and check consents and screening results

• To assist in the administration of the cryostore, including cryobilling and monitoring consent expiries

• To prepare cultures dishes for use in treatment

• To perform semen preparation for treatment, semen analysis and freezing

• To perform quality control and monitoring of equipment

• To perform laboratory cleaning and maintenance of equipment

• To assist in the maintenance of the cryostore and gas cylinder store

• To ensure all procedures are performed in line with TFP Laboratory SOP’s

Quality Management

• To read and acknowledge laboratory documents, including SOP’s, policies and risk assessments

• To raise non-conformities that arise within the laboratory area on QPulse and notify the Laboratory Manager

• To assist in the performance of laboratory administrative audits

• To follow Health & Safety guidelines within the laboratory area and participate in Health & Safety training, be aware of local risk assessments and use personal protective equipment appropriately

Induction and Training

• To complete modules of the TFP Training Scheme as appropriate to the job role under the supervision of an embryologist

• To participate in continuing professional development and participate in training/courses to help expand own knowledge and skill set

Regulatory Compliance

• To ensure all procedures are performed in line with national regulation, professional guidelines and TFP Policy

• To ensure witnessing and traceability within the laboratory are carried out in line with national regulation and TFP policies

• To assist in the organisation of transport of gametes/embryos in and out of the clinic in line with national regulations and TFP policies

Communication

• To attend laboratory and clinic meetings as directed by the Laboratory Manager

• To ensure that communication and cooperation with other functional areas as well as TFP is effective

• To actively participate in patient information and marketing events

• To represent TFP at group meetings, industry events and conferences as required

Confidentiality

• The post holder must maintain confidentiality of information about patients, employees and other Company business in accordance with the National and European data protection legislation.

Qualifications and Experience: 

• Minimum of A-Levels or equivalent, preferably a degree in Life Sciences
• Background knowledge of the science underpinning embryology

• Awareness of national regulation

• Knowledge of quality control procedures e.g. temperature checks

• Good manual dexterity skills

• Flexible and self-motivated

• High level of attention to detail

• Excellent communication skills

• Right to work in the country of application

• Satisfactory criminal record checks

Location: TFP GCRM Fertility

Hours: Full Time 37.5 Hours per week

  • Weekend rotation at 1:3

Salary: Competitive (Experience dependent)
